An unidentified Mexican national in his early 20s was listed in critical condition at Mercy Hospital on Tuesday after he was shot 14 times Monday night. The victim was one of 10 illegal aliens who were traveling north when they were attacked by five bandits about half a mile south of Otay Mesa Road near Brown Field, San Diego police reported. Officials said the bandits told the aliens to lie on the ground, robbed them, then ordered all but one, whom they singled out as the guide, to leave. As the group of nine was leaving, they heard gunshots and returned to the area where they found the victim. The victim was taken to Mercy Hospital, where officials said he was put into a “barbiturate coma” to reduce brain swelling.
