A customer followed the suspect in the holdup of a Beverly Hills savings and loan office for five blocks, then flagged down a sheriff’s car on Wilshire Boulevard, police said. Deputies Jeff Klamecki and Tom Henry jumped out of their car and arrested 32-year-old James Earl Watkins. They said he dropped a package containing about $3,000, the amount taken from Beverly Hills Savings & Loan, 8370 Wilshire. The customer, who stayed on the opposite side of the street for the entire five blocks, was not identified.
