Collier Leads Renegades to First Victory, 28-17
Quarterback Reggie Collier scored three touchdowns, including one on a 63-yard run in the final minute, Thursday night to help the Orlando Renegades break into the win column with a 28-17 victory over the slumping Memphis Showboats before 21,223 fans.
It was the fourth straight loss for Memphis.
Collier also had a pair of one-yard scoring runs, and Jerry Parrish took the opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown for Orlando (1-6).
Memphis (3-4) rallied from a 21-7 deficit, led by Mike Kelley, who replaced the league’s top-rated passer, Walter Lewis, early in the fourth quarter. Kelley had the Showboats on the Orlando 31 with a minute left before misfiring on four consecutive passes.
Collier then clinched it with his 63-yard yard with 33 seconds left.
Lewis, who completed 6 of 13 passes for just 64 yards, threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Mark Raugh.
