Dallas Roosevelt’s Roy Martin, rated the nation’s top schoolboy athlete by Track & Field News, blazed to a Texas Relays record and second best all-time U.S. high school 100-meter mark of 10.18 seconds Friday night.

Martin’s time on a windless night at Memorial Stadium was just .02 of a second off the all-time best by Houston McTear of Baker (Fla.) in 1976.

Joe DeLoach of Bay City, Tex., finished second in 10.26, the fourth best all-time mark. The third best of 10.23 is held by Johnny Jones of Lampasas, Tex., now a wide receiver for the New York Jets.
