The City Council has adopted a policy that will exempt owners of single-family houses from being forced to grant the city air-space rights above their property unless additions or remodelings double the size or the number of rooms of the original house.

However, the city will continue to ask for easements above any new houses or subdivided lots, and on all multiple-family complexes and commercial and industrial properties in a designated area near the municipal airport.

The affected area is bounded by Carson Street to the north and the city boundaries to the west, south and north.

Since April, 1977, only homeowners who added less than 750 square feet to existing houses have been exempt from the aerial easement requirement.
