Pepperdine University scored six runs off Cal State Fullerton starter Bobby Nettles and went on to win, 9-6, in a nonconference baseball game on Titan Field.

Nettles, a transfer from Orange Coast College, was making his first start of the season and had only 17 innings of work previous to the game. The junior allowed two runs in each of the first three innings. Wave shortstop Nezi Belelo hit a two-run home run off Nettles in the second inning.

Pepperdine (42-9-1) built an 8-0 lead before the Titans (31-28-1) scored five times in the fifth inning. Three runs came on catcher Rich Slominki’s seventh homer of the year.

In nonconference action:

Loyola-Marymount 15, UC Irvine 7--The Anteaters, who have allowed 56 runs in their last four games, lost their sixth straight at Westchester.

Loyola (23-26) got four runs in the first inning off losing pitchers David Trussell (2-3). The Anteaters (21-27-1) got as close as 7-6 after five innings, but Loyola scored two in the bottom of the fifth and six in the seventh to dispel any Irvine hopes of a comeback.

Chris Ipsen pitched three innings in relief to get the win for Loyola in his first decision of the year.

The Lions, who had 13 hits, were led by Chris Donnels, who was 5 for 5 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Irvine, which had 19 hits by committed three errors, was led by Mike Byrne and Don Davis, who each had four hits, and by Paul Hammond and Doug Irvine, who each had two.
