“There appears to be a zero connection” between the presence of a Hollywood abortion clinic and the cause of a disastrous fire April 8 that destroyed a restaurant and a portion of the clinic, causing nearly $1 million in damage, Deputy Los Angeles Fire Chief Craig Drummond said. However, Drummond said investigators could not yet say officially what caused the blaze in the 6400 block of Hollywood Boulevard. Officials of the Feminist Women’s Health Center have complained that the department’s arson investigators would tell them virtually nothing about the fire or its cause. Because there was no official determination of the cause, the center officials said, insurance companies were canceling their policies and landlords were afraid to rent space for such a center. The officials were not available for comment on Drummond’s remarks.
