A speeding car crashed into a woman walking with three children at Camp Pendleton, killing all three youngsters and seriously injuring the woman, the Marine Corps reported. Deborah Ostergaard, 24, the mother of two of the children, was taken to Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego for treatment of multiple injuries. Her husband, Sgt. David L. Ostergaard, is stationed at the base. The dead children were identified as Charmane Ostergaard, 6, her 4-year-old brother, Jeremiah, and Annabell B. Reyes, 6, daughter of Sgt. and Mrs. Joaquin Reyes. The driver, Charles M. Smith, 20, a base dependent, was arrested by military police and will be turned over to federal authorities, the Marines said. The accident took place on a road next to a military housing project on the sprawling northern San Diego County base.
