Baca Upsets Montes on TKO at Sports Arena
Jorge Baca of Guadalajara upset Herman Montes of Whittier, the No. 8-ranked welterweight, on a third-round technical knockout when the ring doctor stopped the fight Thursday night at the Sports Arena.
Montes (48-4) suffered a serious cut over the right eye, apparently when he slipped and struck the ring rope while throwing a punch. Baca (27-4) was the aggressor from the outset and was ahead on points when the bout was stopped.
