Steinbrenner Doesn’t Know It, but He Has Only Himself to Blame

Share

Yogi Berra was not to blame for the Yankees’ problems. Nor are the players. The blame rests on George Steinbrenner, who seems to have no real respect and love for his players, their fans or the game of baseball.

If the great men on the Yankee team are not playing great baseball, it would seem that it is because their owner has sucked them of their self-confidence and spirit. In order to convince himself of his own greatness, Mr. Steinbrenner seems to delight in denigrating the great men who work for him. Reggie. The Goose. Now Yogi. Is he going to shoot the jockey if his race horse doesn’t win every race?
