Woman Dies in Huntington Beach Apartment Fire; 12 Tenants Evacuated
A Huntington Beach woman died apparently of smoke inhalation after a fire erupted in her second-story apartment early Saturday.
The Orange County coroner’s office identified the woman as Jacqueline Robertson, 30.
Fire Department spokesman Richard Kaump said the fire started in the kitchen of the apartment at 16761 Viewpoint Lane at 1:50 a.m.
Firefighters found the woman unconscious in her bedroom and rushed her to Humana Hospital Huntington Beach, where she died a short time later, Kaump said. No one else was found in the apartment.
Another 12 tenants of the Banbury Cross Apartments were evacuated and given temporary housing by the American Red Cross, Kaump said.
He said the fire, which was extinguished in 15 minutes, caused about $70,000 damage and that about 15% of the building was damaged. An investigation is under way.
