Canada Defeats Haiti in World Cup Qualifier

Canada shut out Haiti, 2-0, Wednesday night to advance to the final qualifying round of soccer’s 1986 World Cup.

Dale Mitchell scored in the 14th minute and Igor Vrablic in the 56th in support of goalkeeper Paul Dolan.

Canada joins Honduras in the final qualifying round of countries from North and Central America and the Caribbean. The third representative will come from the group made up of the United States, Costa Rica and Trinidad & Tobago.

One representative from the region will play in the World Cup finals in 1986 in Mexico. As host, Mexico automatically qualifies.
