Proposed County Smoking Ordinance

Share

I can’t believe it. After two statewide elections in which voters turned down government regulation forcing smoking/no smoking sections on privately owned businesses, the Orange County Board of Supervisors is considering a law that would force this ill-conceived concept on us.

Aren’t the supervisors supposed to pay attention to the voters? Don’t they know county residents have voted against this proposal twice in two years?

The government has no business prohibiting private employers and employees from smoking in their own offices--or their conference rooms! Who, I ask, is going to enforce this ill-conceived law, our already overburdened sheriff’s deputies? Are we going to start office-to-office witch hunts to check up on employers who may have the gall to let their employees smoke in the restrooms?

If this kind of interference with private businesses is what we can expect from a supposedly conservative Board of Supervisors, I think we ought to throw them out and find someone who pays attention to the voters.
