Lillian Curry Grey, a descendant of California’s old Carrillo family who was in the first class at Hollywood High School when it opened in 1910, is dead at age 97, it has been learned.

Her daughter, Lita Grey Chaplin, who was once married to comedian Charlie Chaplin, said Mrs. Grey died April 22 of the complications of age in a Los Angeles area convalescent home.

Mrs. Grey was the daughter of Luisa Simorfina Carrillo, whose family once owned the Cucamonga and Chino ranchos.

Lillian Grey’s father, William Edward Curry, was a downtown Los Angeles restaurateur who later moved to Hollywood, where he was probably the first of the film caterers, packing box lunches for actors and production crews in the early days of silent films.

She later married Robert Earl MacMurray, who preceded her in death. In addition to her daughter, her survivors include a grandson, actor Sydney Chaplin.
