A headless, legless torso and other body parts found along the Kern River over the last several weeks belonged to a Long Beach man, Kern County sheriff’s deputies said. Using fingerprints, the coroner’s office identified the victim as Mark Anthony Duarte, 25, of Long Beach. The victim’s torso was found in a plastic garbage bag by fishermen on April 13. Deputies returned to the area the next day to search for more evidence and they found another plastic bag containing the victim’s left leg and foot about two miles from where the torso was found. “We now know who he was and we know he was murdered, but we still don’t have any suspects in the case,” Detective Jerry Davis said. “We’re still trying to find out when he was last seen so we’ll have some idea of when he was killed and maybe that eventually will lead to something.” Investigators said the victim’s head and other leg are still missing.
