U.S. oil imports fell 10.6% from April, 1984.

At the same time, oil consumption in the U.S. dropped 1.8% in April, the American Petroleum Institute reported. The oil industry group said imports of oil and petroleum products averaged 4.601 million barrels a day in April, compared to 5.149 million barrels a day for the same month a year earlier. Imports represented 30.3% of domestic petroleum consumption, which averaged 15.2 million barrels a day. In April, 1984, imports accounted for 33.3% of the average daily oil use of 15.485 million barrels. For the first four months of this year, oil imports fell 18.5%.
