UCLA Medical Center celebrated the second anniversary of its MedStar helicopter program last week with a reunion of former patients who were rescued by the helicopter.
Since it began in 1983, the MedStar helicopter service has made 840 flights. It takes accident victims to hospitals, transfers high-risk patients from one hospital to another and flies recipients and donor organs for kidney, liver and heart transplants.
