CS Fullerton May Get Football Title Today
The Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. is expected to announce today that Cal State Fullerton has been awarded the 1984 conference football championship, following the PCAA’s decision in March to strip the University of Nevada Las Vegas of its title for using seven academically ineligible players.
The Titans finished the season as conference runner-up after compiling a 6-1 (11-1 overall) record and losing only to UNLV, 26-20. However, the Rebels were subsequently forced to forfeit all 18 victories from the past two seasons after the discovery that four starters and three reserves had participated, in violation of NCAA rules.
Nevada Las Vegas’ forfeit of the 1984 Fullerton game revised the Titans’ record to 12-0.
