Speeding Problem Hits Close to Home in Beverly Hills

Complaining that too many outsiders were speeding unchecked through their well-to-do part of town, a Trousdale Estates homeowners group decided to take their case to City Hall.

They told the Beverly Hills City Council that the Police Department was not doing enough to ticket motorists who violated the 25 mile-per-hour limit on Loma Vista Drive.

As a result, the department stepped up its enforcement and discovered that, in fact, nearly half of those cited for violating the law lived in Trousdale Estates.

“It’s ironic,” said Lt. Miles Lee, the city’s traffic division manager. Lee said that the police issued 52 tickets during a two-week period between April 24 and May 8 for speeds as high as 70 miles per hour along the steep route. Of those cited, he said, 28 were non-residents and 24 were residents.
