A man critically wounded in a shoot-out at an Anaheim residence Wednesday night was arrested in his hospital bed early Thursday on suspicion of breaking into the home armed with a pistol, police said.

Randall Joseph Dodds, 30, of Costa Mesa was booked into UCI Medical Center’s jail ward on suspicion of burglary and assault with a deadly weapon, said Anaheim Police Sgt. John Haradon. Bail for Dodds, an electrician who received a shotgun blast in the abdomen, was set at $25,000.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from a longstanding feud over several things, including a borrowed motorcycle part, between Dodds and residents of the home at 113 1/2 S. Kroeger St. Haradon said Dodds was allegedly shot by Samuel William Kalman, 22, of Anaheim, a visitor at the home Wednesday night.

Kalman, an unemployed handyman who told police he didn’t do anything wrong, was arrested at the home shortly after the shooting on suspicion of attempted murder and was being held Thursday in lieu of $250,000 bail at the Anaheim City Jail.

Haradon said Dodds allegedly kicked in a back door and charged into the home, confronting Kalman with a pistol. Kalman, who was aware of the feud, armed himself with a shotgun, Haradon said. Gunfire was exchanged but only Dodds was wounded. Dodds staggered out of the house and ran to a car where two friends were waiting. They drove him to Western Medical Center in Anaheim but he was later transferred to UCI Medical Center, where he underwent surgery to remove shotgun pellets, police said.
