Bronson for Trustee

A runoff election on June 4 for one seat on the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees is likely to generate little voter enthusiasm, but indifference should not be allowed to saddle the board with a candidate who will obstruct its efforts to attack the very real problems that the colleges face. Veteran trustee Arthur Bronson, who has been a voice of reason on the board since 1971, should be reelected, especially in the face of a challenge from former Los Angeles Board of Education member Richard E. Ferraro.

Community colleges in Los Angeles and statewide face financial problems that have led to cuts in classes and thus loss of students. They need to provide better education to enable more students to transfer to four-year universities, and better training for students seeking jobs in an increasingly technological world. They do not need a trustee who alienated even his own philosophical allies when he served on the school board. Arthur Bronson should be returned to office.
