A pilot of a single-engine airplane made a forced landing on a dry riverbed in Canyon Country on Monday afternoon, but the pilot and his passenger were unhurt and the aircraft sustained only minor damage, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The Bonanza 836 landed at approximately 4:25 p.m. on the bed of the Santa Clarita River between Highway 14 and Soledad Canyon after it lost power, a department spokesman said. The pilot and passenger, identified as Eugene Graff of San Diego and Betty Cornelius of La Jolla, walked away from the craft.

It was not immediately known where the flight originated or where it was headed, the department spokesman said.
