A Truckee high school senior and a National City woman have won the top prizes in the 46th annual poetry competition of the California Federation of Chaparral Poets. Sheri Davis’ poem “I’m one of about 1,000 high school-level entries, won the group’s “Golden Colt” award for its treatment of introspection and self-evaluation. “We fish the River of Days,” a free-verse poem about hope and risk, earned the “Golden Pegasus” award for author Mary M. Pronovost of National City. Hers was among about 2,400 poems submittted in the adult competition.
