A Pacoima man was arrested on suspicion of bank robbery Tuesday soon after the Granada Hills branch of Lincoln Savings & Loan was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash, authorities said.

A Los Angeles police officer observed Ronald Murray, 27, a block from the savings and loan on Chatsworth Street soon after the robbery, Detective Larry DeLosh said. Because Murray, who was on foot, fit the description of the robbery suspect, the officer stopped him to question him. DeLosh said Murray fled and was chased by the officer before slipping out of sight.

A police dog found him hiding in the backyard of a home. Money taken in the robbery was recovered, DeLosh said.

FBI spokesman John Hoos said a robber entered the savings and loan about 2:45 p.m., handed a teller a note that said he was holding a gun, and demanded $10, $20 and $50 bills.

Although no gun was ever seen, Hoos said, the man was given some money. Neither Lincoln officials nor police would disclose the amount taken.
