Waltrip Wins the Pole for Winston Cup Race
Darrell Waltrip, driving the same car he has driven at Riverside International Raceway since 1981, won his fourth Winston Cup pole of the season Friday by lapping Riverside’s 2.62-mile course at 115.533 m.p.h.
NASCAR champion Terry Labonte will start Sunday’s Budweiser 400 Grand National race alongside Waltrip on the front row. Labonte posted a 115.443.
“The weather was perfect, but the times were generally slower than expected because the track is deteriorating,” Waltrip said.
