The Region : Two Bus Systems Reap Federal Grants

Bus systems in Torrance and Long Beach will be getting millions of dollars in help from the federal government, U.S. Sen. Pete Wilson (R-Calif.) announced. The funds are from the federal Department of Transportation. Long Beach Public Transit will receive $5,655,000 for the purchase of six new buses, new communications and shop equipment and for major renovation of offices and bus stop improvements. Torrance will be granted $1,954,000 for purchase of four small buses and spare parts, as well as some operating assistance.
