College Baseball World Series : Arkansas Ousts Stanford; Miami Wins, 2-1
Jeff King went 4 for 4 and Mark Jackson hit a three-run homer to lead Arkansas past top-ranked Stanford, 10-4, in the NCAA College World Series Thursday.
In the second game, relief ace Ric Raether slammed the door on second-ranked Oklahoma State after Chris Magno had singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to lift Miami of Florida to a 2-1 victory.
Stanford (47-15) and Oklahoma State (58-16) were eliminated from the tournament, while the victories sent Miami (61-16) and Arkansas (51-14) into Saturday’s elimination round against Mississippi State (50-13) and Texas, respectively. Mississippi State will first meet Texas (62-12) in the winners’ bracket finale tonight. The winner of tonight’s game will earn a berth in the championship game regardless of a win or loss Saturday.
Arkansas’ King singled and scored the first of his three runs in a five-run fourth inning. Jackson homered in the fifth, and King added a run with his 17th homer with nobody on in the seventh.
