First Norman Scores Victory at Hollypark
First Norman went to the outside for the stretch drive and closed strongly to win the $36,000 feature race Thursday at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Bill Shoemaker, First Norman finished 1 3/4 lengths in front of Infantryman, ridden by Laffit Pincay. Illuminize, ridden by Rafael Meza, was another 1 lengths back.
First Norman was clocked in 1:22 for seven furlongs and paid $6, $4.20 and $8.20; Infantryman paid $5 and $7, and Illuminize returned $13.80 to show. The unusual payoffs were a result of odds-on favorite Awesome River finishing fourth.
