Chapman’s Halasz Signs With Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles signed Chapman College shortstop Mike Halasz to a minor league contract Saturday and he will report to St. Thomas University in Miami for an Oriole mini-spring training camp next week.
From there, Halasz will be assigned to either Bluefield, West Va., a Rookie League team, or Newark of the Class-A New York-Penn League.
Halasz batted .301 for the Panthers this season and was the first team California Collegiate Athletic Assn. shortstop. Prior to Chapman, Halasz played on Cal State Fullerton’s 1984 NCAA Championship team and was at Fullerton College for his first two seasons of college ball.
The 6-foot, 175-pound Halasz is a 1981 graduate of Anaheim High School.
