USFL Roundup : Walker Gets 209 Yards in Loss

Despite an outstanding performance by New Jersey’s Herschel Walker, the Oakland Invaders clinched the United States Football League’s Western Conference championship Sunday with a 34-29 win over the Generals.

The victory, before 24,338 at Oakland, boosted the Invaders to 12-4-1. New Jersey fell to 11-6.

Walker rushed for 209 yards on 26 carries, making it the third time this season that he has gone over the 200-yard mark. So far, he has gained 2,338 yards in 17 games.

Tampa Bay 17, Birmingham 14--Intercepting three Cliff Stoudt passes in the third quarter, Tampa Bay broke a four-game losing streak to earn a spot in the USFL playoffs.

Birmingham, which had a total of five passes intercepted in the game at Tampa, fell to 12-5. The Bandits are 10-7.

Memphis 31, Jacksonville 0--At Memphis, the Showboats (10-7) held the Bulls to 42 yards rushing, 40 by Mike Rozier, as they registered their first shutout ever, ending any hope the Bulls (8-9) had of making the playoffs.

Baltimore 41, Orlando 10--Quarterback Chuck Fusina teamed with wide receiver James Caver for a pair of touchdowns as the Stars (9-7-1) routed the Renegades (4-13) before 6,988 at Baltimore.
