Fields, Rollins Winners of 10K Run in Newhall

Farron Fields and Marie Rollins captured the men’s and women’s divisions of the Independence 10K run Thursday in Newhall.

Fields was awarded $180 in prize money after winning with a time of 30:06. Rollins received $150 after winning with a time of 37:00.

The race, which was organized by Santa Clarita Runners and sanctioned by The Athletic Congress, followed a flat course through Valencia. Alan Dehlinger (31:34) was second in the men’s division, while Sheila Ralston (37:34) was second in the women’s division.

Marshall Matye finished first in the men’s masters division (40 and older) with a time of 32:47. Andre Tocco (34:01) was second. The women’s masters division was won by Gina Faust with a time of 40:09. Judy Kewley (41:16) was second.

Masak Hosts Golf Tournament

The Ron Masak All-Star golf tournament, which benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Assn., will be held July 15 at the Woodland Hills Country Club.

Masak, the tournament host, is known as “The King of Commercials” for his more than 2,000 roles. He has guest starred in more than 150 television shows, starred in 12 feature films and has served as Los Angeles host of the Jerry Lewis Telethon for eight years.

A golf clinic and trick-shot demonstration by golf pro and instructor Dean Reinmuth will precede the tournament.

Agoura Slow-Pitch Tourney Set

A Men’s Open Slow-pitch softball tournament will be held Aug. 10-11 at Agoura and Chumash Parks. The City of Agoura Hills’ Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring the 14-team, double-elimination tournament that is open to all men’s teams.

The entry fee is $110 for in-city teams and $132 for out-of-city teams. The entry fee does does not include the umpire fees. Registration deadline in July 19 and in-city teams have priority.
