Gaines Named to Panel on Aging

Marcia Gaines of Palos Verdes Estates was reappointed to the Los Angeles County Committee on Affairs of the Aging by Supervisor Deane Dana. During her 25-year career in geriatrics, Gaines has been owner and administrator of Ocean View Nursing Home and Ginger Park Retirement Center in addition to being a consultant to various nursing homes.

Jean McLeod of Ladera Heights was elected 36th president of the Centinela Hospital Medical Center Auxiliary at the volunteer organization’s annual installation of officers. A former nurse, McLeod has been a member of the auxiliary for eight years. Other officers installed were Peggy Wolter, Kay Kavanaugh, Carol Hopp, Peggy Eubank and Odella Harrison.

Jim Wilson of Hawthorne was named Y Person of the Year by the Centinela Valley YMCA. Owner of Century 21 Hawthorne Realty, Wilson was honored for outstanding leadership and dedication to the youth of the Centinela Valley.

Joseph C. Miles, director of Northrop University’s Institute of Technology, was elected vice president of the Aviation Technician Education Council for 1985-86. During his three years of service with the executive committee, Miles has presented workshops in federal aviation regulations. The council was founded to promote better relations among aviation schools, the industry and the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Rev. Russell Gabler of Carson was appointed chaplain for the Carson sheriff’s station. Gabler has been minister of the Carson Bible Church since 1978 in addition to being president of the Carson-Wilmington Ministerial Assn. and president of Carson sheriff station’s clergy program.
