Costa Mesa : Step Right Up, Folks, for Nuptials on the Midway

Share

Romance roared like a roller coaster for John Knutson and Julie Dickson.

The two carnival workers went out on their first date just four weeks ago--and Thursday they tied the knot, appropriately enough, on the midway at the Orange County Fair.

Though the backdrop wasn’t traditional, the 20-year-old bride wore a long gown and veil, and it was a tuxedo for her 23-year-old groom.

The ceremony got off to a late start as Julie’s father arrived from Fontana just in time to give his daughter away. John, the lead man on the Scrambler ride, and Julie, who works at the rope ladder booth, promised to love and cherish as the two and a minister stood on the steps of the colorful Sea Dragon amusement ride.

But the honeymoon will be brief at best. The two plan to be back at the fairgrounds as the fair officially opens its 10-day run today at noon.
