A 2-year-old San Bernardino County boy died in a fire probably sparked while he played with matches in his family’s garage, fire officials said. Garland W. Osborne made repeated attempts to rescue his son from the burning building, but he was driven back by the heat and smoke, California Department of Forestry Capt. Carl Bethurum said. The body of Garland E. Osborne was found by firefighters after they put out the flames at the home in the community of Highland, officials said. “The cause was accidental, possibly started by the boy playing with matches,” Bethurum said.
