A man and a woman were found shot to death in the front seat--and a 9-month-old baby girl was unharmed in the back seat--of a car parked on a street in Alhambra Saturday night.

Residents of the neighborhood said they heard the man and woman arguing loudly just before the shots were fired.

Lt. Gene Hetzel, a homicide investigator for the Sheriff’s Department, said the child was in MacLaren Hall in El Monte Sunday while police attempted to find a relative to take care of her.

Hetzel said residents of the 2000 block of Elm Street heard a man and a woman screaming at each other about 9:40 p.m. Saturday.

The couple got into a 1979 four-door Chrysler and drove about 200 feet into the 1900 block of Elm Street, where shots were fired, he said.

Cause of the argument and the subsequent shootings were under investigation, and names were withheld pending notification of next of kin.
