Brea : Council to Discuss Plans for Carbon Canyon Area

Share

After “playing with numbers,” Brea’s city staff has formulated six more development plans for the Carbon Canyon area.

City Council members will discuss the plans as well as hear comments from the public at their Tuesday night meeting.

After protests from residents July 2 that the development plan recommended by the city’s Planning Commission would pack too many homes in Carbon Canyon, the council members asked the staff to come up with different plans.

The suggested density plans to be considered Tuesday range between 1,608 and 2,550 units, said Brea Development Services Director William Kelly. The numbers do not include the 303 existing homes in the Olinda Village area and the Hollydale Mobile Home Estates, Kelly said.

The residents proposed a total of 2,038 units in the 1,800-acre area. The Planning Commission recommended a maximum of 4,371.

Council members also will vote on a a proposed ordinance that would prohibit smoking in public places but not in businesses. Instead, the officials would request the city’s Chamber of Commerce to develop a “self-regulating” policy.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Brea Civic Cultural Center.
