Airport Accident Kills Woman, 60

A 60-year-old Lawndale woman was fatally injured Sunday when a car backed into her and two other people who were standing on the sidewalk at Los Angeles International Airport.

Police said Rose Perales died while undergoing treatment at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Inglewood for massive leg injuries she received when she was pinned between the car and a pillar at Terminal One.

Her daughter and an unidentified man also were struck by the car. They were treated at the same hospital.

The driver of the car was identified as Holly Ballard, 18, of Malibu. Police said she had pulled into the terminal to pick up her father and somehow lost control of the vehicle while in reverse gear.

She was not arrested or charged, but police said that the case was still being investigated.
