Local News in Brief : CSUN Student Slain by Roommate Identified
Astudent at California State University, Northridge, who police say was shot to death by his roommate late Sunday night, was identified Tuesday by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office as Charles Williams.
Williams, 26, died of multiple wounds after his roommate, Douglas Fiebelkorn, 24, shot him in their apartment in the 17600 block of Burbank Boulevard in Encino, police said. After the shooting, Fiebelkorn fled to Hawthorne, where he shot himself to death when cornered by police there early Monday morning.
Los Angeles Police Lt. Bill Gaida said Tuesday that detectives still are uncertain why Fiebelkorn shot Williams.
Gaida said that Fiebelkorn may have been distraught over a recent breakup with his girlfriend. Fiebelkorn, a former loading-dock worker at Hughes Aircraft Co. in El Segundo, had been drinking heavily before the shooting, Gaida said. There was evidence of cocaine use in the apartment, he said.
