Stephannie Jones, a member of the Kennedy High 4 x 100-meter relay team that won the City championship this spring, has accepted a scholarship to attend Idaho State in the fall.

Jones, who also finished third in the City 400 last spring, selected Idaho State over Wyoming and Cal State Northridge. She intends to major in business administration at the Big Sky Conference school.

Matt Simpson of Camarillo teamed with Peter Killian to win the Ventura Junior Tennis Tournament doubles title. Simpson joined Killian as a last-minute replacement when Killian’s scheduled partner did not make the tournament. Simpson, a Rio Mesa graduate, was one of three Camarillo residents to advance to the finals. Brian Giffin, with partner Ken Pedroza, won the boys 14 doubles title.

In Golf: Barry Lysaght of Topanga, carded a double eagle on the 475-yard, second hole at Balboa Golf Course in Encino. Lysaght, a frequent player on the course, used a driver and a 5-wood. . . . Bob Weiss captured the Sepulveda Mens Club President’s Cup at Balboa. He defeated runners-up Clyde Reynolds, 2 and 1, and Tom Hickman, 2 and 1, in a three-man match play final.

Art Lopez has been named head coach of the East Valley YMCA’s Blue Marlin Swim Team. The Blue Marlins participate in Southern California competitive and YMCA swim meets for athletes aged 4 and up.

The doubles team of Cindy VanWyck and Carol Patterson broke a three-way deadlock to take the championship title in the Conejo Recreation and Park District Independence Women’s Doubles Tournament at the Thousand Oaks Community Center tennis courts. VanWyck and Patterson went 4-1 in the tournament, losing only to the team of Cindy Phillips and Marolyn McElroy (6-4, 6-2). Phillips and McElroy also finished 4-1, but their loss (4-6, 6-3, 6-1) to the third-place team of Joyce Noy and Fran Schillinger (also 4-1) cost them first place. VanWyck and Patterson defeated Noy and Schillinger.

The results of the Junior Invitational Golf Tournament held Thursday at Woodland Hills Country Club: overall boys division, Greg Abdulian (no club affiliation) with a 69; alumni flight division, Ray San Filippo (Yorba Linda) shot a 73 16-17; boys, Bob Sockolich (DeBell) with a 70; 14-15 boys, Tony Kim (Los Coyotes) with a 74; 12-13 boys, Edwin Lee (Palos Verdes) with a 78; girls overall, Debbie Koyama (Industry Hills) shot a 78; 14-17 girls, Carrie Lynn Leary (Valencia) with an 84; 12-13 girls, Patty Sinn (Bellflower) with an 85.
