Boy, 15, Pursued by Deputies, Hurt in Crash
A 15-year-old Thousand Oaks boy, driving his parents’ new car, led sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit through residential streets early Friday until he crashed into a tree and was knocked unconscious, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said.
The boy, whose name was not made public, was in serious condition at Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura with internal injuries and a broken collarbone, a hospital spokesman said.
A sheriff’s car stopped to question the boy because deputies noticed his 1985 Thunderbird blocking two lanes of traffic on Rancho Road in Thousand Oaks, Sgt. Gary Freeman said.
The boy made a U-turn and drove off, running several stop signs at up to 55 m.p.h., Freeman said.
Deputies said they pursued the Thunderbird but lost sight of it at La Jolla Drive. A short time later they found the car, which had crashed into a large tree on Valley High Avenue at La Jolla Drive.
A Sheriff’s Department spokesman said no drugs or alcohol were found in the car.
