City officials are seeking ways to raise about $750,000 to rehabilitate Baldwin Park’s civic auditorium. The building, which was dedicated in 1937, was last used in 1977, when it was closed to the public and began serving as a warehouse for city materials.

City Manager Ralph Webb said that tax-exempt financing is being sought to refurbish the auditorium and install about 500 seats for use by the school district and for civic events. A possible alternative, Webb said, is to have the city’s cable service provider, United Cable, improve the auditorium for its own use and to share it with the community.
