Rich Gossage, ace relief pitcher for the San Diego Padres, was flown to San Diego in what the team called a “precautionary move.”
Gossage’s right knee became swollen after he pitched two innings Tuesday night in the Padres’ 5-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Gossage has a 2-2 record and 21 saves this season. He will be examined today by the team physician in San Diego.
