ROBERT WISE NEW CHIEF OF ACADEMY

Four-time Oscar winner Robert Wise, who produced and directed such classics as “West Side Story” and “Sound of Music,” has been elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the 1985-86 term.

Wise, a past president of the Directors Guild of America, has served 19 years on the academy’s Board of Governors and four terms as a vice president.

Art director Gene Allen, academy president for the last two years, was elected as first vice president. Also elected vice presidents were writer-producer Fay Kanin and Richard Kahn, representing the academy’s public relations branch.

Charles Powell, also from the public relations branch, was elected secretary and Rex Rudloff, from the sound branch, was reelected treasurer.
