Yankees Storm Plate; Fisk Tags Pair
Chicago White Sox catcher Carlton Fisk turned a rare double play Friday night by tagging out two New York Yankees at the plate on the same play.
With the score tied, 3-3, in the bottom of the seventh, Andre Robertson singled. Bobby Meacham came on to run for Robertson. Dale Berra was safe on third baseman Tim Hulett’s error, putting runners at first and second.
Rickey Henderson then hit a shot over center fielder Luis Salazar’s head. Meacham was waiting on the play and stumbled when he started to go to third. With Dale Berra right behind him, the two runners headed for home only feet apart.
Meanwhile, Salazar had thrown to shortstop Ozzie Guillen, who then fired to Fisk. Fisk tagged out Meacham and was knocked spinning but managed to tag Berra on the way down.
The play was scored 8-to-6-to-2-to-2.
