San Juan Capistrano : Riding Center to Offer Tours at Open House
A glimpse of a unique form of therapy for the handicapped can be seen at Orange County Riding Center’s open house tonight.
The open house, free to the public, will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will include a tour of the new facility, at 26282 Oso Road in San Juan Capistrano. There will be a free dinner, a raffle and live music, as well as carriage rides.
Fran Joswick, the nonprofit organization’s director, said that a new video, “The OCRC Story,” chronicling the center’s seven-year history, will be screened.
The center, on one acre next to the Sycamore Trails stables, has three paddocks and two riding rings. Six horses and two ponies are used to help the handicapped develop self-confidence and improve their physical and mental functioning, Joswick said.
More than 70 handicapped riders, from preschool age to adult, visit the center each week, she said. Donations and volunteer workers are needed; for more information, call (714) 240-8441.
