Gerald M. Lushing, chairman of the board of Midland Housing Industries Corp. and its subsidiaries, has been named vice president of the Los Angeles Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Lushing, a resident of Beverly Hills, is active in a number of civic, cultural and Jewish philanthropic activities. He has been a member of the Traffic and Parking Commission, the Crime Prevention Advisory Council of the Los Angeles Police Department and is a founder of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

The Weizmann Institute is Israel’s foremost scientific research center and ranks among the top 10 in the world, officials said.
