Tustin Woman Found Dead in Home; Daughter Booked as Murder Suspect

A Tustin woman was taken into custody on suspicion of murder Thursday morning after her mother was found dead at their home.

The mother, Mariam Elise Aston, 59, had suffered numerous injuries to her head and body, a police officer said, adding that the cause of death was awaiting the completion of a coroner’s investigation.

Terry Lynn Aston, 25, was arrested a neighbor telephoned police, officers said. She was taken into custody for questioning and booked at Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder, then transferred to UCI Medical Center in Orange for treatment of hand injuries.

According to neighbors, Miriam Aston had chronic heart trouble and had been hospitalized several times. Her daughter moved in with her about 3 1/2 months ago.

Tustin police would not identify the neighbor who summoned them to the Aston home. No motive for the killing has yet been determined, and no weapon was found at the scene, police said.
