Howe to Start Workouts With Twins

The Minnesota Twins said Thursday that relief pitcher Steve Howe, who asked for and got his release from the Dodgers July 3, will begin several days of workouts with the team today.

Howe and attorney Jim Hawkins have reportedly agreed to a contract with the Twins, extending through the 1986 season, but Manager Ray Miller said Thursday that he wanted to watch Howe throw before activating the left-hander. That move is expected to be made Sunday.

Howe reportedly would have signed with the Twins earlier but feared then that a strike would jeopardize the money he is receiving from the Dodgers.

A press release distributed by the Twins set down media guidelines. Howe, it said, will talk only about his interest in the Twins and not his past, his private life or his involvement with drugs.
