Former Tulane Player Set to Face Trial Today

Share

John (Hot Rod) Williams, the central figure in the Tulane University point-shaving scandal, goes on trial in New Orleans today. Williams is charged with accepting cocaine and cash from gamblers.

Another Tulane player and three other Tulane students already have pleaded guilty in the case. Williams, a 6-10 center-forward, is the first suspect to stand trial, with the four others scheduled for later hearings.

Williams, 23, had been set to face a six-person jury beginning last Monday, but his attorneys gained a last-minute delay to study new evidence.
