A robber who stabbed a San Diego service station owner Tuesday was caught by three station customers who witnessed the incident, San Diego police said.

Arrested was Reginald Owens, 24, who police said approached Don’s Arco Service in the 1500 block of F Street about 1:40 p.m. and threatened an employee with a knife. Police said the owner, Don Henderson, 51, responded to the employee’s cry for help and was stabbed twice in the chest in the ensuing scuffle.

Police said Owens then ran into the street, where he was tackled by three men who were customers at the station.

Owens was booked into County Jail on suspicion of armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Henderson was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was in good condition Tuesday night.

Aaron Gomez, 21, said he was at the station buying a soft drink when he saw Henderson struggling with Owens. Henderson was bleeding from wounds to the stomach and ear, said Gomez, when Owens dropped the knife and fled. Gomez pursued him for a short distance and helped subdue Owens when he stumbled and fell.
